What is the difference between a single-circuit and a dual-circuit system?

A single-circuit machine has only one boiler, which is used alternately for brewing and steaming—it cannot do both at the same time. A dual-circuit machine also uses only one boiler, but routes the brewing water through a separate heat exchanger, allowing for simultaneous brewing and steaming.
