Which is better for me? An espresso glass or an espresso cup?
That depends mainly on what you value most when enjoying an espresso. A classic espresso cup made of thick-walled porcelain retains heat particularly well and ensures that the aroma and crema last longer. That’s why many espresso lovers prefer the traditional cup for an authentic Italian coffee experience.
An espresso glass, on the other hand, stands out for its modern, transparent look. It perfectly showcases the crema. The double-walled glass also creates a unique visual effect: the espresso seems to literally float inside the glass.
For many people, the feel of the cup and the sensation in the mouth also play a role in enjoying coffee. As a result, coffee cups are usually more bulbous than glasses and have a thicker, rounded rim that feels more comfortable against the lips. Some people find the thin rim of espresso glasses uncomfortable. However, this is a matter of personal preference.
