Arabica or Robusta beans for your coffee?
Buy Arabica or Robusta beans for my coffee? What do Arabica and Robusta mean? Sooner or later, the question of the right beans to buy for coffee comes up for every fragrant coffee lover. We present our brand recommendations and explain exactly what the distinction between Arabica and Robusta is all about.
The varieties of coffee bean
As a rule, a distinction is made between Arabica and Robusta beans, whereby the blending ratio has a decisive influence on the intensity and taste of the coffee.
Asa general rule, coffee and espresso blends with a high Arabica content are significantly milder than those with a higher Robusta content.
But it is not only the blend ratio that has an influence on the overall taste - because not every Arabica or Robusta bean is the same! Depending on the roast, blends with a low Robusta content can also be perceived as very strong.
As always in the espresso world, the proof of the pudding is in the eating! Nevertheless, we will show you the differences between the two bean types here!
The Arabica Bean - The Essence of Coffee
The Arabica bean is large and flat and has a more or less pronounced seam curl, depending on the region of origin. With an average height of 6-8 metres, the Arabica plant can be grown at 900-2000 metres, unlike Robusta.
Its caffeine content is 1.1-1.7% and it thus makes up the lion's share in coffee drinks - it is not uncommon for many coffee varieties to consist exclusively of 100% Arabica beans.

The name says it all - the Robusta bean likes it strong!
Visually, the Robusta can be recognised by its small, roundish shape and the straight seam.
The Robusta plant, which is considered to be very hardy, grows to a height of about 10 metres and grows at an average altitude of 200-300 metres. It has almost no enemies, such as parasites. With a caffeine content of 2-4.5%, it is the ideal stimulant and thus a must for every strong espresso!

So that you don't get lost in the jungle of the many espresso beans in our webshop, we give you a little orientation plan here and show you which brands are represented with mild and which with stronger blends.
One thing should be said in advance: You will look in vain for an espresso blend with a predominantly or even purely Robusta content, because they take the shoes off most people's feet!
Brands with a high to 100% Arabica content
Almost all the brands represented in our shop are also predominantly represented by their varieties, which have a particularly high Arabica content or even consist of 100% Arabica beans. This is mainly due to the fact that these varieties are very digestible and are also particularly enjoyed pure, i.e. without milk!
Our Espresso Perfetto own brand is particularly strong in terms of Arabica content with the varieties Crema Aroma, Organic Fairtrade and our decaffeinated espresso espresso. Not forgetting our 100% Arabica, of course!
